🤖 OpenAI tests model for CAD and electronics

On November 3, OpenAI published a post titled "Accelerating engineering for the physical world." The internal model scored an average of 0.875 on BenchCAD 2.0—restoring 3D parts from drawings and connections on printed circuit boards—while GPT-6 Astra scored 0.594. Two engineers designed a device for voice communication with Codex using Astra in one week: the enclosure, board, and firmware.

🌍 Models are covering more stages of device creation—from CAD and drawings to simulations and firmware. Partnerships with Chip Ganassi Racing and Mazda are bringing them into real industrial tasks, while OpenAI's hardware teams have grown 23-fold since February.

👤 Practical takeaway: the model provides a draft, but manual checks of tolerances and assembly are required for mass production. OpenAI is seeking external engineers and vendors for co-training models in mechanics and electronics.
