Startup Synthetic Sciences (Y Combinator W26) took the open agent OpenScience out of beta on September 27 and launched it on Product Hunt: an updated desktop, a paid model service Ace (30+ models, including GPT-6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5), and Autoresearch mode, where the agent independently runs a series of experiments and raises a specified metric.

🌍 The AI agent race is moving from code to science: the project is open (Apache 2.0, your own keys), and benchmark results are published with traces — 75.7% on Terminal-Bench Science versus 68.1% for Codex with the same GPT-6 Astra. The scaffold wins, not the model.

👤 The application for macOS, Windows, and Linux is free, works with your own keys and local models; experiments run locally, over SSH, on Slurm/PBS clusters, or in Modal.
