Claude Code no longer cuts off sessions at the 5-hour limit

Anthropic changed Claude Code's behavior: when the 5-hour limit is reached, the agent no longer cuts off the session in the middle of edits, but looks for a "graceful stopping point" and completes the task using a small fixed reserve deducted from the weekly quota.

🛠 Claude Code no longer cuts off sessions at the 5-hour limit

Claude Code from Anthropic no longer interrupts work in the middle of edits when the 5-hour limit is reached: the agent looks for a "graceful stopping point" — a logical completion point — and completes the task using a small fixed reserve from the weekly quota. This was reported on 25.09.2026 in the ClaudeDevs account. Continuing after auto-completion will require usage credits.

🌍 A hard cutoff is being replaced by a soft completion paid from the weekly quota: long runs — migrations, large refactorings — will less often end in lost context and a broken codebase state.

👤 On Pro, the reserve for completion is available once a week, on Max and Team Premium — every time the limit is reached. The rollout is gradual; check the remaining limits with the /usage command.
