⚡ Anthropic CEO calls for slowing AI development
Dario Amodei published the essay "We Must Pace the Frontier" and called for slowing the growth of frontier model capabilities so that auditing can keep pace with development. In his assessment, AI is already accelerating the creation of the next models, and within 6-12 months a swarm of agents could theoretically deploy a botnet causing hundreds of billions of dollars in damage. Anthropic commits to giving independent auditors permanent employee-level access, including alignment evaluation during training.
🌍 The market leader is institutionalizing external audit of the training process for the first time. Three steps: embedded evaluators, coordination among labs in democratic countries, international norms. Altman stated that OpenAI will do the same, and Hugging Face asked to join the program.
