💻 Micron Unveils 512 GB DDR5 Server Module

The company demonstrated the world's first 512 GB DDR5 RDIMM server module with speeds up to 9200 MT/s; AMD and Intel are already validating it on their server platforms. The record capacity was achieved through vertical stacking of DRAM dies using through-silicon vias (TSV).

🌍 In a server with two CPUs and 24 slots, this translates to up to 12 TB of RAM, and a single module consumes 16 W compared to 44.2 W for four 128 GB modules — more than 60% less energy, which changes the economics of LLM inference and in-memory databases.

👤 Mass production is scheduled for the second half of 2027, but an architecture with fewer slots for large capacity can be planned now: one 512 GB module instead of four 128 GB modules saves both watts and slots.
