💼 Map of AI Data Center Environmental Impact in the US
The Brockovich Data Center Reporting initiative has launched an interactive map to track the impact of AI data centers on the environment and society in the US. It has recorded 33 operational, 66 under construction, and 44 proposed facilities, as well as over 8,300 resident complaints regarding energy consumption, water usage, and noise.
🌍 Growing social and political resistance may slow the expansion of AI infrastructure and increase regulatory requirements for energy efficiency and water consumption.
👤 The development of AI comes with a real physical cost: it affects utility costs, water availability, and the environmental situation in regions hosting computing hubs.
