NVIDIA has developed ARDY—an innovative framework that allows for the generation of complex human motions in real-time using text prompts, keyframes, and kinematic constraints.

What Happened

The ARDY framework utilizes a hybrid data representation that combines explicit root parameters with latent body embeddings, alongside a two-stage transformer-denoiser architecture. This allows the system to generate smooth and coherent motions lasting several minutes while supporting parameters such as trajectories and joint positions.

Context

Traditionally, the industry has faced a gap between high-precision offline models, which provide quality but operate slowly, and fast online methods, which lack controllability. ARDY aims to bridge these two approaches, providing high accuracy alongside the possibility for interactive intervention.

Why It Matters for the Industry

For the AI and robotics industries, this paves the way for using generative AI in controlling humanoid robots, such as the Unitree G1. The technology enables a transition from rigidly programmed animations to adaptive behavior systems in Embodied AI, where high-level models control physical actions.

Why It Matters for Users

Developers and digital content creators gain the ability to control character animation "on the fly" using plain text or simple control commands. This significantly lowers the barrier to entry for creating digital actors and accelerates the prototyping of complex scenarios without the need for deep Motion Capture skills.

For full implementation into production-ready solutions, additional data regarding latency on target hardware and precise inference costs are required.
