Chinese engineers create 3-gram neural interface

Tianjin University and Shengong Diting presented the Shen Gong Xumi Brain Cube on September 30, 2026 — a non-invasive EEG neural interface weighing 3 g and measuring 2 cm³, which is attached under the hair and records brain signals wirelessly for up to 8–10 hours.

🛠 A 3-gram neural interface hides in the hair

Tianjin University and Shengong Diting presented the Shen Gong Xumi Brain Cube on September 30 — an EEG system measuring 2 cm³: electrodes, battery, and radio module in a single housing under the hair. The developers claim 1000 Hz and 8–10 hours of operation, but these are developer data.

🌍 The main barrier of non-invasive BCI — bulky EEG caps — has been eliminated. Long-term brain signal recording becomes “wearable”: sleep and rehabilitation monitoring, neurogames, monitoring the state of employees in the field.

👤 A sensor the size of a sugar cube is invisible to others. In consumer scenarios — neurogames and sleep tracking. But GB 9706.226-2021 only covers safety, and registration with the NMPA has not been announced.
