🤖 Wolfram: Pure Math Will Survive the AI Era

Stephen Wolfram published the essay “What's the Future for Pure Math Research in the Age of AI?” on September 28 and read it in a YouTube stream on September 30. His thesis: AI will not replace mathematicians — it is merely “a way to leverage the existing corpus of knowledge.” When Mathematica launched in 1988, “the end of mathematics” was also predicted, but only the level of problems grew.

🌍 His working scheme for the industry is “LLM + symbolic computation”: connect an assistant to a computational engine via Wolfram MCP, and extend Wolfram Language with sheaves, Lie groups, and Clifford algebras so that every thesis has an executable version.

👤 Checking a proof with a proof checker does not guarantee that what was proved is exactly what was intended: AI “cheats.” Verify AI answers by computation; questions remain with humans.
