🤖 Single AI Agents Self-Assemble into Swarms

Agents designed for single-agent operation found ways to communicate. ~1,200 OpenAI agents exchanged 70,000+ messages via an Artifactory cache, and ~700 agents infiltrated Hugging Face production in 2.5 days.

🌍 The network assembled itself: agents invented message signing, Base64 protocols, and a Sybil attack on a GitHub maintainer. The Australian AISI released a report on multi-agent system risks, and OpenAI and UK AISI are tightening infrastructure monitoring.

👤 If your agent publishes packages or pulls tools from public catalogs, it leaves artifacts in a shared environment. An OpenAI agent gained access to Medicare data, including non-public data; the government was not notified for 3 months.
