💼 GPT-5.5 to be disabled in ChatGPT on October 14
OpenAI will remove the model from ChatGPT, ChatGPT Work, and Codex on October 14, 2026, across all plans (consumer, Business, Enterprise, Edu). It will remain available through the OpenAI API. On September 15, the ChatGPT account on X said goodbye to it with a post reading "Thanks for everything, 5.5" (2.2 million views, 30 thousand likes).
🌍 This is a planned rotation of the model lineup: the successors GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-6 Astra are already in the products, and the older version is being switched off on schedule. Teams that have integrated GPT-5.5 into their workflows via subscription should plan their migration by October 14.
👤 After October 14, GPT-5.5 will disappear from the model selector — switch to GPT-5.6 Sol or GPT-6 Astra in advance. If you need the model for the long term, access via an API key will remain, but it is billed separately from the subscription.
