🛠 LibreOffice 26.8 — an office suite without AI and the cloud

The Document Foundation released a semi-annual release for Windows, macOS, and Linux in 120 languages — consciously without generative AI: according to TDF, documents do not leave the machine, and the network is not required. New features: “Paragraph Composer” in Writer, OpenType variable fonts, and calculated fields in Calc.

🌍 The refusal of AI is presented as a privacy feature — an argument for organizations that cannot send documents to third-party services. At the same time, there is a split in the ecosystem: TDF is in conflict with Collabora, which added AI to Collabora CODE 26.04.

👤 The package is free and works offline. According to a review by The Register, it restores corrupted Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files better than Microsoft applications — useful for MS Office users as well.
