💼 ChatGPT Ads expands to 31 European markets
OpenAI announced on August 18, 2026 that it is launching ads in 31 European countries, including Germany, France, Spain, and Italy — its largest expansion since the pilot: in February 2026, ads were running in only 9 countries. Labeled ads are shown only to users on the free Free and Go plans; Plus, Pro, and Enterprise remain ad-free.
🌍 ChatGPT has a billion weekly users, about 20% of whom have commercial intent, and ad revenue has grown by more than 25% since the start of August.
👤 Labeled ads will begin appearing on the free Free and Go plans in Europe. According to OpenAI, they do not affect responses and do not gain access to conversations; personalization can be turned off in settings, and a Plus, Pro, or Enterprise subscription removes them entirely.
