Over the past week, more than 20 'Dump Big Tech' protests have taken place in the US at the offices of Palantir and Google, at data center construction sites in Oregon and West Virginia, and outside local politicians' offices. According to a survey by the Annenberg Public Policy Center, 61% of Americans are now opposed to the construction of new data centers in their neighborhoods.

Groups Make the Road, United Ratepayers, and Food & Water Watch have staged protests at the offices of Palantir and Google in New York, at data center construction sites in Oregon and West Virginia, and outside the offices of politicians in five states — against Palantir's cooperation with ICE and facial recognition.

🌍 Opposition to local data centers in the US has risen from 49% to 61% over four months (Annenberg survey). Candidates from both parties are demanding moratoriums on construction, and New York and Texas have already introduced pauses in issuing permits: permitting risks for AI infrastructure are growing.

👤 For residents, AI has become a political issue: 68% believe that the government is doing 'too little' to regulate AI, and they are frustrated by data centers near their homes and privacy concerns.
