🚀 Tensordyne's Napier Chip Accelerates AI via Logarithms
Startup Tensordyne has unveiled the Napier chip, which uses a mathematical trick: instead of resource-intensive matrix multiplication, data is converted into a logarithmic format. This allows operations to be performed through simple addition.
🌍 The technology enables a reduction in power consumption and inference costs. The Napier chip consumes only 300W compared to 1200W for the Nvidia Blackwell B300, allowing for the use of standard air cooling.
👤 This is a step toward the democratization of AI: cheap hardware will lower API costs and make running powerful models on local equipment a reality.
