💻 IBM has unveiled a chip with nanostack architecture and vertical transistor stacking (CFET).
This new technology allows for approximately 100 billion transistors to be placed on an area the size of a fingernail, which is double the density of 2021 technologies. At the same time, performance increases by 50%, and energy efficiency improves by 70%.
🌍 The transition to vertical stacking allows for bypassing the physical limitations of silicon electronics and extending Moore's Law for another 10–15 years.
👤 This will enable the creation of the next generation of ultra-powerful processors for data centers and PCs that are not limited by the boundaries of miniaturization.
