💼 Google: Schools will get search only with AI
On November 3, Google announced: for K-12 accounts, Gemini, Notebook, Gemini in Classroom, and Google Search are now disabled by default until administrators explicitly enable them. A school that refuses AI loses search entirely due to this integration. Starting in early 2027, options with AI Overviews or "Guided Learning" are promised.
🌍 The vendor owning the school ecosystem — Classroom, Gmail, Docs, Chromebooks — has tied search to AI adoption. Microsoft and Apple received a signal: distribution through schools has become a battleground for AI integration.
👤 Check K-12 account settings: if AI is off (which is the default), students lose Google Search as well. Experts advise AI literacy instead of prohibition — children encounter AI outside of school.
