🤖 arXiv: 2 preprints per month limit per author
Starting October 1, 2026, each submitting researcher can upload no more than two preprints to arXiv per month. The reason is a surge in low-quality AI-generated papers ("AI slop"): in September, about 40,000 preprints were uploaded compared to ~30,000 from March to July, and the moderation queue has grown to nearly 4,000 manuscripts, which are reviewed by about 300 volunteers.
🌍 arXiv is the central hub for AI/ML publications, and its limit sets the tone for the ecosystem: major conferences and journals are already introducing similar quotas. But the problem is merely shifting to other platforms — SocArXiv has already limited authors to one paper per week.
👤 Do you publish preprints or track new models via arXiv? The limit is already in effect — plan your uploads in advance: rapid serial uploads may raise suspicions.
