đź’» Postgres 19: Only 4 of 12 Reverts Linked to AI-Found Bugs
Thomas Vondra, a PostgreSQL committer, analyzed all 12 reverts of major features from PostgreSQL 19 and refuted the viral claim (a post by Elizabeth Kristensen, Snowflake) about 'bugs found by AI.' According to mailing list threads, in 8 of the 12 cases the problem was found by humans—Noah Misch, Andres Freund, and others; AI was involved in only 4.
🌍 The incorrect diagnosis ('AI finds unfixable bugs') would devalue AI review in projects, while the actual impact is different: CVEs grew from about 5 in 2025 to 44 in 2026 (28 in the August patch for PG18); their triage consumes reviewers' time during stabilization.
👤 PostgreSQL 19 will be released about a month later than planned. If you send bugs found by AI to open source, wait for the promised AI contribution policy.
