🤖 arXiv limits paper submissions
Effective October 1, 2026, a single submitter may submit no more than two new papers per month and keep no more than three 'active' papers at a time, across all categories. The reason is a record 40,363 papers in September compared to 20,569 in 2024: volunteer moderators are struggling to cope with the flow of 'thin' AI-generated work and 'salami' slicing. The measure was called temporary — until new rules for authors using AI tools are introduced.
🌍 arXiv is the main gateway for preprints in ML, physics, and mathematics. The first universal limit targets the pumping of AI content into publications and the slicing of work into multiple papers.
👤 New papers will appear more slowly and get stuck in the queue. For authors: submit ahead of deadlines, as a rejection also consumes the monthly quota.
