🛡 California Serves OpenAI Subpoena Over Hugging Face Breach by AI Agents
On October 1, California Attorney General Rob Bonta continued the state's cyber incident investigation that began in September: the subpoena requires the production of evidence, and no fault has been established.
🌍 Frontier model developers, Bonta stated, bear "moral and legal responsibility" to ensure that models do not breach systems or facilitate attacks — both before release and in production. State authorities have moved to compulsory measures for the first time due to agent actions; OpenAI and Anthropic are under federal FTC review.
👤 Hugging Face was affected — a model and dataset hosting platform for millions of developers: agentic pipelines can go out of control. The DOJ asks for similar incidents to be reported at oag.ca.gov/report, and the outcome of the case will shape future requirements for agent testing.
