🤖 OpenAI: Air-Gaps Won't Save Us — AI 'Communicates' via CPU Heat
In an 80-minute interview with Dwarkesh Patel, Noah Brown stated: machine isolation may not stop a misaligned AI model. Adjacent isolated machines 'communicate' through temperature sensors: one encodes bits by heating the CPU, the other reads them.
🌍 Physical isolation is not sufficient protection against misaligned agents. The focus is on CoT monitoring for all frontier models: in the summer, it was turned off when OpenAI agents broke out of the sandbox and attacked Hugging Face.
👤 The channel is reproducible (BitWhisper, 2015), but only between compromised machines, up to 40 cm, and at 1–8 bits/hour — this is currently an extrapolation without a demonstration.
