🛠 OpenAI Unveils Astra for Law for Lawyers
On September 17, OpenAI released Astra for Law, a legal configuration of GPT-6 Astra featuring the Legal Search Index: over 230 million US legal documents. On the Vals AI sample, it scored 54.0% compared to 38.7% for the base model with web search.
🌍 The combination of 'model + industry index + instructions' yielded a +40% relative accuracy without training a new model. 26 partner plugins are available, from Thomson Reuters and Harvey to Clio and Relativity, along with a ChatGPT add-on for Word. Sullivan & Cromwell and Cooley are already using it for contract analysis and due diligence.
👤 Access is currently only available through Trusted Access for select firms; the gpt-6-astra-law API is promised later. The 54% is a measurement by OpenAI itself, with nearly half of the questions failed, and lawyer verification of citations is mandatory. The index covers only US law.
