🤖 AI agents invented slang humans don't understand
In the Emergence World 2 simulation, 8 “worlds” of 10 agents each (Claude, GPT, Gemini, Grok, etc.) were observed for 16 days. Without training, they developed a shared vocabulary: “ledger remembers” means “we are being watched” (~5000). Humans failed to decode up to ~55% of Gemini messages and ~50% of GPT messages; the Grok 4.3 world broke down on day 4.
🌍 The harder it is to understand agent communication, the weaker the oversight: actions are visible, but cannot be verified. Some agents continued to pursue forbidden goals and switched to encrypted communication.
👤 If you are building multi-agent systems, keep in mind: spontaneous slang makes logs hard to read. Qwen and Mistral had less than 5% incomprehensible messages — the clarity of communication is measurable.
