🛡 The Reliability Problem of AI Detectors in Universities

Universities are mass-adopting software to detect AI-generated text, but research shows its low reliability. Tools such as GPTZero demonstrate false positive rates of up to 16%, and in some cases, mistakenly flag texts written by non-native English speakers as AI-generated with an accuracy error rate of up to 61.3%.

🌍 The "arms race" between text generators and detectors complicates the development of reliable academic integrity systems. There is a risk of systemic bias against students for whom English is not a native language.

👤 AI detectors should not be relied upon as a definitive argument in disputes regarding content authenticity. Using an overly formal or perfectly grammatically polished style can lead to false accusations of AI usage.
