Yandex has launched joint master's programs in "Smart Device Hardware Development" at HSE University (FCN) and MIPT (FPMI) to train specialists at the intersection of electronics and artificial intelligence.

What Happened
Yandex introduced new educational programs in partnership with HSE University's Faculty of Computer Science (FCN) and MIPT's Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (FPMI). The training covers the full cycle of creating intelligent systems: from mechanical and electronic design to embedded software development and the integration of ML models for audio and speech processing. Students will work on real-world tasks from the Alice team and other Yandex smart devices.
Context
The initiative aims to create interdisciplinary expertise combining hardware, embedded development, and Machine Learning. This builds a systemic bridge between AI model development and their physical embodiment in devices (Edge AI), ensuring inference optimization directly on the target hardware.
Why It Matters for the Industry
The launch of these programs strengthens the talent pipeline for a critical market segment: Edge AI and consumer electronics. This contributes to the development of the local smart device market and technological sovereignty by creating a pool of specialists capable of solving complex vertical integration tasks involving both software and hardware.
Why It Matters for Users
For students and young professionals, this is an opportunity to gain unique practical experience at the country's largest technology company. The program allows them to master rare interdisciplinary competencies in demand for the development of wearable devices and voice-controlled systems.
What Is Not Yet Known / Limitations
Technical specialists may focus on resource optimization and inference, while business-oriented roles may focus more on vertical integration and identifying new market niches.
